Tour Package

The clue is in the name with the Tour Package WordPress theme. Available from ThemeForest, this is a theme that’s clearly aimed at tour operators and package travel firms, rather than individual hotels and resorts.

There’s plenty of background functionality to support this kind of business, particularly the package filtering system that helps users construct a holiday package with a number of options – almost like a mini Expedia!

The theme is responsive and retina ready, and looks equally good on mobile devices and PC screens.

Resident Designer’s Opinion

“The Tour Package WordPress theme is very well-balanced for use across multiple devices. Some theme designers are currently falling into the trap of creating sites that look great on retina display tablets at the expense of how they look on computers, but Tour Package gets this balance right.

One thing we were particularly impressed with was the slider transition effects, which attractively build the home page’s main image “on the fly.” They may not appeal to everyone, but we liked them – take a look at the demo to make up your own mind.

The theme is also very flexible, with all kinds of different package layouts making it easy to showcase a wide range of different holiday options.”

As is very much the current trend, Tour Package’s home page layouts all feature a prominent rotating (and slide-able) central image.

During our tour of the demo, we were impressed to find integrated instructional videos showing designers how to make the best of the theme.

The videos are a good touch when you take into account the flexibility (and resultant complexity) of the theme. There are two, three and four column package layout options in a choice of two styles. The image below shows the standard two column package layout.

Two column

This is the four-column layout in the alternative style:

There are also single package and thumbnail layouts available:

There are also plenty of blog layouts – 12 in total, with various column and sidebar options:

The “Contact” page layout is clear and functional, and we liked the attractive social networking buttons. It’s also quite pleasing to see a contact page like this instead of the “large map” contact pages that are now popular to the point of cliched.

Continuing the theme of flexible customisation, there is a generous range of short codes included.

Short codes

The back end of the theme provides plenty to make customisation easier, including a drag and drop page builder and a live colour changer with no colour limitations.

ThemeForest’s cost of $45 for a regular license is extremely generous for what you get. This theme still allows scope for creativity in terms of colour and layout, making it less likely your site will just look like an exact replica of others creating the theme (which, incidentally, had been downloaded just under 700 times at the time of writing).

While it’s fair to say that small hotels and B&Bs would probably be better off with a simpler theme, fully fledged travel companies will find just what they need right here. An extended license retails at $2250.

Tour Package is aimed at a niche market, but deserves high praise for just how well it serves it. This is a theme that could happily support a company offering a vast range of travel options.

The level of customisation available may be intimidating to some, but the trade-off is the ability to customise the theme so it works exactly as needed.

Most importantly, Tour Package offers a level of quality that a big name travel firm wouldn’t be ashamed of. Highly recommended.
